game changing trends
Welcome to my living room, a living room like countless other livings rooms across America, where the most radical conversations for real change are in groundswell mode. What is the primary topic among citizens across the political spectrum these days? We are beginning to agree on a a fundamental truth: Our "democracy" is broken. We live in The Matrix, an illusion, a dysfunctional two-party system beholden to Wall Street, the presumption of empire maintenance, and a tin ear to the cries of the suffering many. The American Perestroika is upon us. What is to be done?
America, Inc. is being held hostage by a crypto-fascist GOP run by bored billionaires, Big Oil and corporate-owned TV and radio. Scientific fact and analytical thought is considered the enemy of a mean-spirited right wing minority in Congress. A new dialogue has opened up between self-identified conservatives and progressives, united by the fact that citizens across the political spectrum--the 99% of the rest of us who are not the ultra wealthy corporate class are being led like lemmings, following the butterfly off the cliff. What is to be done?
Scenario: millions of citizens from all 50 states converge on Washington, D.C., surround Congress and demand the GOP come out onto the steps to be tarred and feathered; the president declare an national emergency, calling on the Justice Department to file charges of Treason against any member of Congress who chose to collapse the US economy and threaten global economic collapse. Indeed, the answer to the question would bring about the change we need. But what then? How do we convince our President to bring home all troops from Iraq and Afghanistan NOW? How to we fund a Marshall Plan for our country for game-changing trends in smart grid technologies, advanced solar and wind R&D subsidized with the dollars now given to nuclear and Big Oil? How do we get Medicare for all? How do we get a social contract which approximates that of the G-12 countries? What are the game-changer megatrends that we can implement NOW to help human civilization learn to live within a system of global sustainability? Why are these ideas such a threat to the existing status quo in the GOP? How can we ll work together to make a sustainable future more likely?
